We visited a mask maker's shop near Ubud. These masks are used in plays that reenact scenes from the Ramayana and other Hindu stories. The mask carver donned several of the masks and demonstrated their use while describing the character who is represented by the mask.
These take months to carve and paint - including dozens of coats of paint.
