A Balinese (pre-Hindu) Village

Before Hindus arrived from India, the main religious practice on Bali was animism - the belief in the spiritual nature of all of creation. There are three remaining pre-Hindu Balinese villages. We visited one of the three and learned about weaving and other handiwork. The layout of the village centered around a main building that served as a workshop. On either side of the workshop building were stone roadways, although no cars were allowed in village. Bordering the roadways were family compounds behind solid stone walls. We walked around shops that were housed in some of these compounds. Here are some pictures of the village.
